Formaldehyde Is A Chemical That Is Very Soluble In Water, Alcohol Or Ether And Is A Colorless Gas At Room Temperature. It Is Present In Wood And Coal Smoke, Especially In Smoke Prepared For Curing Ham And Fish And Is Very Reactive And Combines Readily With Many Substances. It Is Emitted As A Gas From Clothing Dyes, Furniture, Carpeting, Fabrics, Insulation, Paneling And Particle Board. Its Vapors Are Intensely Irritating To Mucous Membranes. Topical Contact May Produce An Irritant Dermatitis. Listed By Fda As A Carcinogen.
